LEADER of Hampshire County Council Ken Thornber has announced a reshuffle of his cabinet.

Cllr Colin Davidovitz, executive member for performance, efficiency and communication, has stepped down for personal reasons.

His job will be split between several councillors including Cllr Roy Perry, promoted to deputy leader who is now responsible for communication and external affairs.

The one new face in the top tier of the party is Cllr Ray Ellis.

Dr Ellis leaves his post as chairman of the health overview and scrutiny committee to join the cabinet as executive member for efficiency, performance and rural policy.

Mr Thornber described the new post as a "key appointment" as the council is seeking more savings and 85 per cent of Hampshire is classified as rural.

Cllr Thornber said this is a key role as the council This is a key role as the council looks to provide more for less and make further efficiencies to add to the £48 million achieved over the last three years. Cllr Ellis' position will also include building on the work that the council does to support rural communities -85% of Hampshire is formally classified as rural.

Cllr Michael Woodhall, former deputy leader and executive member for economic development, has had to leave the cabinet after being elected chairman of the council.
