With money tight for most of us right now, I was shocked to learn that a Conservative peer received £29m from profits of a PPE business by being in the VIP lane.

She should return the millions. How many millions, or rather billions, of our money has been wasted by the government of the last 12 years?

Many of us are fed up with politics (or rather fed up with the blatant incompetence and dishonesty which has been festering), but we can’t escape from politics as it surrounds our daily lives – from public services to potholes to the cost-of-living crisis and the shock on our face when we see the rising costs of our food and energy bills.

How do we fix things? We start with electoral and constitutional reform.

No single political party should ever be allowed to wield such self-serving power again with a minority of the votes. Most modern democracies in the world use some form of proportional representation to elect their MPs, so why can’t we?

Readers may also be interested to learn that the most stable and successful nations in the world use PR.

The old "arguments" for First Past the Post are completely discredited. We’ve had enough of chaos under this government. We’ve had enough of short-sighted, confrontational politics. We’ve had enough of our taxes being wasted alongside our votes!
