FRANK Turner's new single, Photosynthesis, has all the hallmarks of chart success.

The song, taken from the Winchester born artist's second album Love, Ire & Song touches a subject close to the heart of us late twenty somethings.

It is an honest, heartfelt and humorous song about barrelling towards thirty.

It's about having neither the time, money or energy to go out and get blasted on a Saturday night anymore, watching yourself and friends fall one by one into the mortgage and marriage trap and feeling helpless as responsibilities take hold and fun seems to drain away.

However, Frank is adamant not to give up without a fight and the words 'I won't sit down and won't shut up' kept ringing in my ears after I heard it and it rekindled that rebellious spirit.

I love the song for how it rings true to my life and it will be popular generally for that reason and the fact that it has a really catchy tune.

The video for Photosynthesis was filmed a couple of weeks ago at Pilgrim's School in Winchester and Frank's mum, Jane Turner, who is a teacher at Pilgrim's, makes a very brief star appearance.

Frank is currently on a popular US tour promoting his debut album Sleep Is For The Week and while he was in Los Angeles he dropped into talk to BBC Radio 1's Mike Davies.

He did a session for the Punk Show and talked about making the decision to have a drastic hair cut, regretting it, and going shopping for hats while in the US, as well as having a bunch of festivals lined up this summer.

On his return to the UK, the folk singer/song writer will tour the country during April, stopping off at The Joiners in Southampton on Saturday March 29, and will finish in his hometown at The Railway Inn on Thursday April 24.

Photosynthesis hits the shops on Monday March 24 and Love, Ire & Song is out on Monday March 31.
