SOME lorry drivers are getting themselves into a pickle in the narrow lanes surrounding Owslebury.

Villagers have seen several trucks edging their way through tight corners, and in some cases, becoming stuck.

The latest incident was at around 8am on Monday (January 7) when a lorry wedged itself in Whites Hill.

The route is characterised by steep climbs, tight corners and is barely more than six feet wide in some places.

Owslebury Parish Council member, Gerry Tull, said: "The lane is regularly use by lorries following sat navs to shortcut journeys and avoid traffic."

He added that the lorry was marooned until Owslebury farmer, Paul Pritchard, came to the rescue and towed it away using his tractor.

After the drama, the tarmac in Whites Hill was left heavily caked in mud, leading to tricky driving conditions.

Mr Tull added that lorries had caused quite a lot of damage in the lanes near the village in the past.

"Last year a farm building was badly damaged when 44-ton HGV tried to turn round in the entrance to Hensting Farm, after trying to negotiate Hensting Lane, a single track lane which has no turning places," he said.
