A WINCHESTER woman reached the national final of a poker contest, despite only taking up the game six months ago.
Liz Sheldon from Winchester represented the Golden Lion last weekend in the final of the first-ever Ladbrokespoker.com pub poker championship.
From an initial line-up of 500 players Liz came 14th.
Liz, a senior housing manager, said: "I was up against professional players who do it for a living. For me, it's just a bit of fun. I enjoy it."
Tim Hore, landlord of the Golden Lion on Alresford Road, said: "We're thrilled Liz has done so well in the pub poker championship."
