Winchester Horticultural Society results

THE sweet smell of success was in the air at Badger Farm Community Centre on Saturday (August 25) when Winchester Horticultural Society congratulated winners of its annual show.

Despite difficult growing conditions over the last year, more than 200 entries were received for the show.

Show secretary, Kate Butler, said: "It was a great success, even better than we expected.

"Because of the weather conditions everybody was worried that things wouldn't be ready, but it went well and we were surprised by the number of entries we had."

The society, which has nearly 50 members, meets on the second Wednesday of each month at The Conservative Club in Worthy Lane, with a variety of outings arranged.

Entry is free to first time visitors and a yearly membership to the group costs £8.

For more information about the group, telephone 01962 868 862.
