CIVIC chiefs have organised a floral tribute to mark 100 years since the end of the First World War.

Placed on the Bar End Road roundabout, the city council-commissioned memorial follows a similar display in 2014 to mark the start of the Great War.

Cllr Caroline Horrill, council leader, and the portfolio holder for environment Cllr Jan Warwick were joined by members of The Royal British Legion to unveil the tribute, which will remain until November 11, Remembrance Day.

Cllr Warwick said: “Our district has an important military past and strong links to the military endure today.

“This administration has committed to commemorating the centenary of WW1 over four years, looking to allow as many communities as possible opportunities to reflect on its impact.

“We have also supported the Fields of Battle exhibition in the cathedral’s Outer Close.

“In the spirit of remembering all those who served and lost their lives locally in the conflict of 1914-18 this is an important enhancement to the area.

“We are keen to pay our respects to all those who served during World War One throughout the District and beyond.”
