A HAMPSHIRE motorway service station has been named among England's worst.

Winchester (southbound) M3 ranked 10th worst in a new survey by watchdog Transport Focus, which compiled a list of the best and lowest scoring services in the country.

It is run by Moto, which also manages a number of other services within the top 10.

Services were ranked by 9,600 visitors to 111 motorway services.

Thurrock services was described as "gloriously ugly" as it was named the worst.

Toddington (southbound) M1, Southwaite (northbound) M6, Newport Pagnell South M1 and Bridgwater M5 completing the top five.

Norton Canes M6 toll was named England's best, with Stafford (southbound) M6 and Wetherby A1 also ranking high on the list.

A spokeswoman for Moto said its service areas scored an average of 90 per cent but "major redevelopment works" at Thurrock and Toddington southbound "had a negative impact on our customers' perceptions".

She added: "There is still much work to do on improving customer satisfaction even more."
