SIR: It’s nice to see our MP Steve Brine talking sense over the ridiculous plan to close Andover Road and reroute all the traffic through the new Kings Barton housing development (Chronicle, July 19).
This idea is frankly mad and will add quite some time to commuters’ journeys day in, day out - meaning they will be sat in their cars or lorries for longer polluting a housing estate that’s full of children going to the new primary school there – brilliant!
Please, powers-that-be just keep open the perfectly good straight road into the city we already know and love, save money and motorists’ time and not clog up the lungs of the young all in pursuit of some trendy plan to have so-called ‘shared space’ in a housing estate with diesel belching articulated lorries.
I see that Conservative city councillors now want to keep the Andover Road open too along with Mr Brine, but the Liberal Democrats don’t. I know who has my vote.
