A GROUP of Scout leaders have put their best foot forward to help one of their members.

Over the weekend, five leaders from the 8th Winchester Scout troop hiked 55 miles over two days in aid of 13-year-old Finn Eyles, who has spinal muscular atrophy.

The group trekked from Southmoor, near Oxford, to Winchester with the aim of raising funds to replace his wheelchair – which is reaching the end of its life – as he cannot walk.

David Ashby, leader; Dominic McAtominey and Dillan Evans, assistant leaders; James Locke; and Louis Howe all took part in the fundraiser.

Despite the intense heat, they covered 30 miles on the first day. Some of the group have previously taken part in the famous endurance event ‘Tour de Trigs but Louis’, but the youngest member of the team, Louis, at just 16 said this latest hike felt much tougher due to the heat. The leaders were fully supported by David’s parents, Caroline and Ian Ashby, who thanked the leaders for their support.

So far, more than £5,000 has been raised towards the £16,000 goal. Visit www.gofundme.com/finnsfund2018.
