THE Winchester ‘Brexitometer’ shows Brexit is a big deal, and possibly not a done deal.

On Saturday over 30 pro-EU campaigners from The 48%-Winchester, European Movement Hampshire and the Liberal Democrats attended a street stall at the Buttercross.

The aim was to measure residents’ views on how they feel Brexit is going, and to promote the People’s Vote March in London on Saturday June 23.

The Brexitometer, devised to visually record peoples’ mood in an engaging way, proved to be popular with both remain and leave supporters alike.

Residents queued to place their stickers and allow their voices to be heard. The four questions asked included: “How is Brexit going?”, “Will Brexit be good for the NHS”, “Will Brexit be good for jobs” and “Should there be a People’s Vote on the final deal?”

The campaigners ran out of space for the stickers and had to expand the poster to make room for more. Overwhelmingly, the over 200 people who took part felt Brexit isn’t going too well, and that there should be a People’s Vote.

City councillor Malcolm Prince said: “It was most enlightening to meet Winchester residents and listen to their informed views on Europe; the vast majority supported Remain and a few were in favour of Brexit. I only wish our members of Parliament would do similar and listen and talk to the public.”

“Whatever anyone’s opinion on Brexit, no one would disagree that it’s a big deal. And not a done deal. A march to support the People’s Vote will take place in London on Saturday June 23 at 12pm,” said Winchester resident Barbara Knight.

The European Movement Hampshire has arranged for a coach from Romsey and Winchester.
