AN INVESTIGATION is underway after a man died when his car hit a tree in a city street.
Police say a white BMW Series 4 hit a tree on Chilbolton Avenue, Winchester, yesterday morning.
Officers were called at 9.30am, following a single vehicle collision.
The driver of the BMW, a 59-year-old man from Winchester, was taken to the nearby Royal Hampshire County Hospital.
He died a short time later.
His next of kin have been informed and they are being supported by specialist officers.
Police closed off Chilbolton Avenue in both directions for several hours while police dealt with the crash.
Investigations into the exact circumstance of the collision are ongoing.
