MORE than 100 sports and classic cars descended on Sparsholt College on Sunday for the annual Winchester MG Owner’s Club’s Cobweb Spin meet.

The annual event, ‘intended to blow away the garage cobwebs after winter storage’ is the group’s annual social gathering for the classic car enthusiasts.

MG clubs from across the south attended the event, including delegations from Basingstoke, Chichester, Solent and Southampton, and New Forest MG clubs.

MG owners even came from as far afield as the Blackmore Vale MG club from Dorset.

Also at the event were a selection of Austins, Daimlers, Jensens, Citroens and TVRs, with several from the Alresford Allsorts Car club.

Visitors took part in guided tours of the college’s animal management centre and were very impressed with the collection of animals and the knowledge of the staff who cared for them.

Winchester MGOC chairman Peter Cranstone thanked Sparsholt College for allowing the use of the Sainsbury Car Park and Bytes Restaurant for providing warming refreshment for those who had arrived ‘top down’.

The event raised more than £400 for medical charity Service by Emergency Rider Volunteers Wessex (SERV), who deliver urgently needed blood and medical supplies to hospitals outside of normal working hours, weekends and on bank holidays.

Volunteers who work for the charity are responsible for their own operating costs including fuel, insurance and telephone bills, other than when operating SERV liveried vehicles which are fuelled and insured by the charity. SERV displayed several of their motorcycles and volunteers were on hand at the event.
