1 THEATRE Royal Winchester’s traditional family pantomime, Peter Pan, opened earlier this week and would be the perfect weekend activity.

The show is produced by the same team that brought last year’s sell-out run of Cinderella.

2 THE Waynflete Singers will perform Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, his great sequence of seasonal cantatas, at Winchester Cathedral on Saturday, December 9.

This will be performed baroque-style with period-instrument ensemble Florilegium, together with a line-up of soloists, under the direction of the cathedral’s director of music Andrew Lumsden.

Soloists include the winner in the 2017 Grange Festival International Singing Competition Rowan Pierce, David Allsopp, Benjamin Hulett and Neal Davies.

3 ROLL UP, roll up and join plucky Hetty Feather on an audacious adventure as the best selling children’s book and Olivier Award-nominated show comes to Nuffield Southampton Theatre.

Devised by award-winning script writer Emma Reeves, Hetty Feather comes direct from a sell out West End run and Olivier nomination for best family and entertainment.

The story is set in Victorian London and tells the story of an orphan, born in 1876 who is left by her mother at the Foundling Hospital for abandoned children. This strict Victorian institution can’t contain Hetty and she sets off on daring adventures including running away to the circus.

4 THIS Sunday is your last chance to see Slava’s Snowshow - the multi award-winning international sensation returning to Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre.

Having wowed Mayflower audiences in 2013, this unique theatrical adventure filled with heart, humour and stunning spectacle, promises a breath-taking multisensory delight.

Slava’s Snowshow has entertained audiences in more than 80 countries and is now on a UK tour.

5 AN evocative art exhibition exploring the subject of ‘mother and child’ continues at Winchester Cathedral this weekend.

Diane Rush’s collection of contemporary paintings depart from traditional interpretations, with a focus on the anonymous mother of the ‘every child’.

Her paintings reflect universality and invite the viewer to interpret the psychological interiority of this fundamental relationship.

This exhibition is free after entry to the cathedral.

6 Christmas Carol Revisited will take place on Friday, December 8 at 7.30pm at Winchester’s Discovery Centre.

Following it’s successful tour of Charley’s Aunt, BBV Media is back with as seasonal favourite.

Based on the classic by Charles Dickens this modern adaptation is fun, moving and ever so slightly irreverent. Guests can look forward to an evening of drama, carols and Christmas cheer.

7 GUILDHALL Square in Portsmouth will be transformed into an ice-skating rink this Christmas.

It will be surrounded by Christmas trees, with a wooden chalet bar to be built next to the Civic Offices and will run until January 2.

The ice rink is big enough for 215 skaters per session. All sessions are for one hour and include skate hire with the rink to be open from 10.30am until 11pm. Nine sessions will take place across the period on a daily basis with the rink open every day apart from Christmas Day.

8 A FESTIVE film screening is taking place at Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium on Sunday, December 10.

A sing-along version of Disney’s Frozen will be shown, a comedy-adventure inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen.

Fearless optimist Anna sets off on an epic journey, teaming up with rugged mountain man Kristoff and his loyal reindeer Sven to find her sister Elsa, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter.

The film begins at 9am, ending at around 10.50am. Tickets are £2 per person when added to general entry to the centre, £5 per person standalone. Advance booking is recommended.

9 CHRISTMAS at Paultons theme park is up and running.

Families can join a reindeer on his journey to find Santa in time for Christmas Eve and return home with a gift, while parents have a complimentary hot punch and a festive treat. Included in the cost of a ticket is the chance to enjoy the delights of a daily, family festive show where visitors can meet Frosty, Rudolph and two cheeky elves, Billy and Belinda.

For the first time, families can take a stroll down the aptly named Snow Street as well as have the opportunity to discover Jurassic-themed attraction Lost Kingdom during the festive season, including rides Flight of the Pterosaur and Velociraptor. Visitors can also experience Peppa Pig World in a magical festive setting and see and hear the entertaining musical Christmas tree.

Also new for 2017, watch Birds of a Feather 4D at the state-of-the-art sensory cinema.

10 A LIVE broadcast of a National Theatre comedy will be shown at the Berry Theatre in Eastleigh tonight, Thursday, December 7.

Rory Kinnear is Marx and Oliver Chris is Engels, in Young Marx, written by Richard Bean and Clive Coleman.

Broadcast live from The Bridge Theatre, London, the production is directed by Nicholas Hytner and reunites the creative team behind Broadway and West End hit comedy One Man, Two Guvnors.

The screening will be at 7pm.
