THE founder of a charity helping people with learning disabilities and autism has been given an honourary doctorate by Winchester University.

Reverend Tim Selwood, who set up the Minstead Trust, was awarded an honorary doctorate of letters.

Rev Selwood said: “This honorary doctorate is not just for me, it is for all of the people who over the years have worked tirelessly to support the community of Minstead Trust, often in the face of many challenges and funding cuts in social care. It is a great honour for me to be awarded this on behalf of everyone at Minstead Trust.”

Having failed his 11-plus exam and starting in the bottom form of Winchester Secondary Modern School – now Kings’ School – Rev Selwood progressed through Southampton Technical College to the Holborn College of Law. He then embarked upon a career as an advocate and was ordained in 1983.
