NEARLY 100 scarecrows of all shapes and sizes took over a Hampshire village in the lead-up to its annual harvest supper.
The first ever Sparsholt Scarecrow Festival, organised by St Stephen’s Church, featured entries on display in gardens and outside Sparsholt Primary School, which were then moved to the village’s Memorial Hall for its harvest supper on Saturday.
Entries included US president Donald Trump, and Darth Vader.
Mayor of Winchester David McLean judged the entries and awarded the prizes.
Ella, Grace and Megan Barnett made the scariest scarecrow with ‘Howl’, Jackson and Madeleine Parker’s ‘Minions’ was a popular win as the funniest entry.
The most inventive was won by Inigo and Scout Robinson for ‘The Twins’ and ’St Francis’ was the mayor’s choice made by Nathan and Jacob Hurley.
Gabriella Panayides’ ‘Girl in a blue dress’ won best of the small entries, Mary Loader won best of the big entries with ‘Swedehead’ and Geoff Beanland won the most traditional prize.
