VILLAGERS are invited to see proposals for flood defence near Winchester.

Civic chiefs are inviting Littleton, Kings Worthy and Headbourne Worthy residents to find out more about plans to reduce the risk and mitigate the impact of flooding.

Cllr Rob Humby, executive member for environment and transport at the county council, said: “We’ve been working with our partners to explore how we might reduce the risk of flooding.

"We now have some information and plans that we are keen to share with the community. I very much hope local residents and businesses will come along to the Littleton Memorial Hall on Friday October 6, where county council officers will be available between 3pm and 7pm to answer any questions people may have.”

During the winter of 2013/14, Hampshire suffered some of the heaviest rainfall in around 200 years, and Littleton, Headbourne Worthy and Kings Worthy were affected by flooding.

The county has been working with the Environment Agency, city council and the local parish councils to implement measures to reduce the impact of flooding and to look at how surface water flooding can be better managed in this part of Winchester, in the future.

Cllr Humby added: “The county council is committed to helping communities become more resilient to the impact of flooding and we continue to work with our partners to secure the funding needed to bring forward improvements.”
