A MAN has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries following a crash between a classic sports car and a tractor.

Police were called to the A32 near Droxford at 8.31am to reports of a collision involving an Austin Sprite sports car and a tractor.

A 75-year-old man, from Soberton, was taken to Southampton General Hospital with serious injuries, and is currently undergoing treatment. Police say the tractor driver sustained no visible injuries.

A Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman confirmed that a tractor ran over a sports car.

A crew from Wickham, one from Bishop’s Waltham and another from Cosham Fire Station were called to the scene at 8.34am on Wednesday.

As a result, the A32 was closed in both directions between the junction of North End Lane and Brockbridge. The road was reopened shortly before 1pm.

Various road closures had been put in place on the A32 and B2150, including on Sheep Pond Lane, and just prior to the entry to the village of Droxford.

The news comes after Gena Close, 56, was killed in a crash on the road last month.

She was rushed to hospital after the collision on Wednesday, August 22, but died a short time later.

As previously reported, an investigation by vehicle tracking system Quartix named the A32 through the Meon Valley and North Fareham as the fifth most dangerous in the country.

Hampshire Constabulary says there were 15 collisions on the A32 last year, and seven in the first six months of this year.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the A32 collision to get in contact by calling 101, quoting incident number 170 of September 6.
