'BRITAIN is still better off in the EU.'

That was the message from dozens of anti-Brexit campaigners in Winchester High Street over the weekend.

Organised by the Hampshire European Movement, Win-IN and the 48% Winchester, more than 60 people set up a stall at the Winchester Buttercross on Saturday afternoon to tell the people of the city that "Britain has nothing to gain, and a lot to lose" by leaving the European Union.

Campaigners handed out a petition calling on the government release its 'Brexit impact studies', and also had heated discussions with Brexiteers. "All agreed to disagree," a Hampshire European Movement spokesman said.

Winchester was one of just four areas in Hampshire to vote remain, with 58.9% of voters wanting to stay in the EU.

The campaigners, who were wearing something blue and waving EU flags to show their support, claim result of the referendum held in June last year is already having a negative impact, with 'NHS staffing problems, more expensive holidays and prices rising quicker than average wages'.
