A WINCHESTER school has tried out its brand new amphitheatre.

The fine weather gave All Saints Church of England Primary School the chance to use the space made possible by funding from the Tesco Bags for Help initiative and the school’s own fundraising by The Friends.

The school received £10,000 from the Bags of Help scheme and with the Friends matching this amount the school has been able to create not only the amphitheatre but a path around the grounds that will mean pupils can use the school field whatever the weather.

The facilities were designed and contracted by Paul and his team from Moreton:Pattison, a local company specialising in biodiversity and natural landscaping.

They used natural materials, such as chalk flint stones and oak in the design to blend in and reflect the local traditions.

The space is to encourage the children to try things out for real in the fresh open air with outside, hands-on learning.

This can help children understand key concepts whilst being active and having contact with the natural world every day, both of which are beneficial for children’s physical and mental well-being.

Headteacher Ms Osborne said: “The amphitheatre will be an ideal spot for the children at playtimes to sit and talk with friends, read or watch a performance by fellow pupils. We would like to thank everyone who worked so hard to make it possible.”
