AN annual golf event, supported by golfers largely from the Dever Valley, was another resounding success raising more than £3,000 for charity.
Two sides, led by Ron Chamberlain and Mark Tiplady, competed for the honour of winning the Rider Trophy at Alresford Golf Club.
This year, Mark’s team came out on top with an emphatic victory and Ron handed over the trophy with due congratulations and a degree of reluctance!
Winner of the men’s individual competition was Tim Wootton-Beard [37 points] closely followed by Jeff Staines and Brian Wright [36 points each]. The ladies winner was Lesley Martin [31 points]. Other winners of supplementary on and off course prizes were Peter Botterill, Trevor Foreman, Dave King, Mike Battisson and Lesley Martin.
The event’s major sponsors were Mark Walker’s building services business and Eight Wealth Management.
As well as bringing local people together, an important aspect of the event is its support for local charities and, this year, Trinity, based in Winchester, was the chosen recipient.
David Walton, from Trinity, participated throughout the day and, during the post-match dinner for players and partners and musical entertainment from Steve Finch, explained the services Trinity provides to vulnerable people.
