IT is that time of year again when the sun shines, and people eat strawberries and cream and indulge themselves with a spot of tennis.

In Hampshire, tennis clubs got involved in the Great British Tennis Weekend which encourages people to pick up their rackets and practice their skills.

At Colden Common Tennis Club around 200 people enjoyed the sunshine as the club got involved with the initiative.

Club bosses say that sessions were fully booked up and people of all ages took part and enjoyed a mix-in session which involved people of all abilities and a tie-break competition.

Social secretary Colden Common Tennis Club Amanda James said: "It has been a great success and all of our coaching sessions were full, we offered various different coaching slots throughout the day and a mixed-in and a tie break competition, we had a bouncy castle, refreshments and a BBQ.

"It started off with the tiny tots group through to the retired people, I think because the weather was nice people were setting around and enjoying the day and the kids absolutely loved the bouncy castle."

Club chairman Rob Veck said: "We have had a fantastic turnout, all our sessions were fully booked and we had more people than we had spaces."

There was also a very well attended event at Littleton Tennis Club.
