A MAJOR Winchester car park which had been closed and partially demolished will reopen.
At a cabinet meeting, it was announced that Friarsgate car park will be open once more to the public on May 7.
Although a council spokesman said there could be a "snagging period" once work is complete that day.
The car park had previously been closed for more than a year for safety reasons.
In 2015, council chiefs took the decision to close all of the car park which once had 250 spaces.
Last year, a plan to demolish the upper floor was approved leaving it with just two levels, and the demolition was done almost brick-by-bric by a specialist firm.
Following the work, the reopened car park will provide 72 much-needed parking spaces in a central Winchester location.
A spokeswoman for Winchester City Council said: "Work on the Friarsgate car park is due to finish on 7 May, but there will be a short ‘snagging’ period thereafter, before the car park is re-opened."
