A MAN was left with a head injury after a fight broke out when a bottle was 'thrown at a baby' in Winchester.
The scenes happened in the centre of the High Street, close to Hobbs clothes shop.
A witness said: “I could see two men argue with each other, one of the men dressed in black with a hoody started pushing the other man, he then began threatening him and said he would “break his jaw”.
A witness claims the man who attacked the other was provoked after a bottle was thrown at his baby.
The injured man was left lying on the street unconscious with a head injury.
Some people rushed to the scene to help the injured man, others simply stood and watched.
One woman, who asked not to be named said: “The man hit him with a really hard punch and he just fell.”
Another man who witnessed the fight said: “He threw a bottle at a baby, and the man reacted and punched him.”
Another eyewitness, who did not wish to be named, said: "The man was being goaded, causing him to throw a bottle in retaliation.
"He was just minding his own business and now this has happened."
A man with a head injury, was seen being arrested by police in the alleyway between Upper Brook Street and the High Street.
He was led away by police up St George's Street.
A Hampshire police spokeswoman confirmed police were called to a report of an assault in Winchester High Street at 2.10pm this afternoon, and that investigations were ongoing.
A police car has been parked in the High Street for several hours after the incident.
