PUPILS at a Hampshire school were minutes away from being caught up in a terror incident at the Houses of Parliament.

Year eight pupils at Kings' School in Winchester were visiting the Houses of Parliament as part of a school trip and were almost caught up in a horrific terror attack which left four people dead and 20 people injured.

A total of 46 children and four teachers were on the annual trip, where they were met by Winchester MP Steve Brine.

According to headteacher Matthew Leeming who was on the trip, the pupils were picked up by coach in the area where the car driven by the attacker had smashed into railings.

The attack happened just minutes after the coach had left.

Although the children didn’t see what had happened, they quickly realised a major incident was unfolding, as emergency services descended on the Houses of Parliament.

Mr Leeming said: “We were in our coach but we did not see or hear anything

"We did notice the emergency services arrive and we were held up a bit.

“So many of the children have mobile phones they were able to reassure their parents very quickly.”

“The bus picked us up against where the car had hit the fence, just three or four minutes before it happened.”

Mr Leeming said pupils followed events closely, and quickly reassured their parents that they’re safe and sound, and said that the school is still likely to hold the trip again next year.
