A SERIES of events have been organised to help celebrate the reopening of a Winchester church.

The 12th century St Matthew's in Stockbridge Road, Weeke, recently reopened after a long closure for refurbishment.

An Open Day (between 10.30 am and 4.30 pm) on Saturday April s will begin a season of activities to showcase the new building.

Other events include:

Thursday April 6: Talk by Dr Mark Allen, University of Winchester, ‘The coming of the railways and its impact on Weeke and Fulflood’;

Thursday April 27: Talk by Helen Chambers, ‘Some memorials in St Matthew’s Church and their story’;

Thursday May 18: Talk by former Winchester mayor Pamela Peskett, ‘Did your ancestors live here? Weeke in the 19th century’;

Friday and Saturday June 2-3, all day: Flower Festival in and around the church;

Saturday September 23, evening: classical music concert performed by local young people.
