A CITY councillor has called for better waste management in Winchester city centre.
At Town Forum, Cllr Ian Tait said the council did Winchester, “a disservice” by failing to deal with the many ugly commercial bins.
He said: “I have persistently liaised with officers to move the bins. The issue here is one of political leadership. Cote Brasserie and Pret a Manger deal with all rubbish internally.”
Corporate director Steve Tilbury said: “There’s a strong commitment from cabinet to do this. Enforcement needs to comply with the county council. Getting it delegated to us would make it easier.”
He added that they would be meeting with the county council to work out the best way to proceed.
