HUNDREDS of people pounded the streets of Winchester for the 35th running of the city’s 10k race.

Participants braved cold and wet conditions for Sunday’s race which started in the Broadway and headed up the High Street and along Jewry Street before heading out towards the village of Kings Worthy.

The return leg passed through the village of Headbourne Worthy and finished at Winchester City FC’s ground in Abbotts Barton.

Shaun Brown was the highest local finisher. The Winchester and District Athletics Club athlete was third in 35 minutes and 37 seconds, behind winner Alexander Lepretre (33.00, Barnet & District AC) and runner-up Jake Hughes (City of Plymouth AC) who finished in 35.06.

Participants received medals and T-shirts Spencer Wakling, from race organisers Offbeat, said: “The event went very well. We have been lucky that it didn’t rain during the race. It was a very good race and we will be back next year.”
