WORK has been spotted taking place at the controversial Winchester Station car park.
It has been criticised for being built without planning consent and as being dangerous for pedestrians.
A protest against the car park, which included Liberal Democrat councillors, went ahead last month despite the opening ceremony being postponed by organisers at the last minute.
A South West Trains spokeswoman said at the time the company wanted to take the opportunity to review the feedback and comments received from local stakeholders on the internal layout of the walkway.
Now, workmen have been seen starting to remove the grills that were blocking the path through the car park.
Councillor Martin Tod saw the process underway as he passed through the station on February 14.
He said: "It's a small step in the right direction - although South West Trains still need to do much, much better. The zig-zags were a real risk for people with poor eye-sight and had to go.
"Walking is the number one method that people use to access the station and I won't be happy until there's a plan that reflects that."
