CALLS to reduce the speed limit on Otterbourne Road following a serious crash have been rejected.

At the latest Compton and Shawford Parish Council meeting concern was raised about drivers failing to observe the speed limit on the road and calls were made to reduce the speed limit to 30 miles per hour.

As reported in the Chronicle, two people including a five-year-old boy suffered serious injuries in a crash on December 8.

The meeting heard that for the five year period up to the end of October last year there had been only four other injury-accidents reported on the section of road between Poles Lane and Southdown Road.

However speed was not noted as a factor in these crashes.

The meeting heard incidents had occurred in 2013 with the latest in March 2015.

Councillors heard that the road is not being considered for inclusion for Hampshire County Council’s safety programme because of the suggested “improving trend”.

It was agreed that Hampshire County Council would continue to monitor the accident database and any deterioration in the safety record would be investigated.

Compton and Shawford Parish Council decided that it would take no further action on the suggestion that the speed limit on Otterbourne Road should be lowered to 30mph.
