Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was hit by a bus in Winchester city centre.

Passers-by and passengers worked together to lift the bus and help rescue the man, who was trapped underneath the vehicle in Winchester.

The 42-year-old pedestrian was hit by the bus as it was turning into St Georges Street, from Middle Brook Stret just after 4.50pm on Monday.

He is currently being treated at Southampton General Hospital for life-threatening injuries.

PC Jamie Foster, said: “There were lots of passengers on the bus at the time of the incident and the city centre was busy with shoppers.

"I would like to speak to anyone who saw what happened or anyone who has any other information that could assist our investigation.”
