SIXTIES pop legends The Zombies are playing a gig in Chandler’s Ford tomorow, November 11.

The group, led by Colin Blunstone and Rod Argent, whose biggest hits were She’s Not There and chart-topping Time of the Season are playing the school hall at Thornden.

They will be playing hits from their extensive back catalogue.

The Zombies were in the vanguard of the post-Beatles British pop invasion of the USA.

They infiltrated the airwaves with sophisticated melodies, high-hitting vocals, choral back-up harmonies and jazzy keyboard riffs.

Ironically, the group broke-up in 1968 just prior to achieving their greatest success – the chart-topping single Time of the Season, from their swan-song album Odessey & Oracle (recently ranked by Mojo, NME and Rolling Stone in their Greatest Albums lists).

In the intervening years lead singer Colin Blunstone went on to develop an acclaimed solo career (Say You Don’t Mind, Misty Roses), and keyboardist/songwriter Rod Argent rocked ‘70s arenas with his eponymous band ARGENT (Hold Your Head Up).

The group are back on the road playing a homecoming concert at St Albans Cathedral, a guest performance at BBC London’s Children In Need fundraiser on November 18 and Vintage TV’s Electric Dreams Weekender.

The career is on the up; with performances at Glastonbury and Jools Holland.

Generations of new bands have cited The Zombies’ work as pop touchstones, including such artists as; Neko Case and Nick Cave (who have recorded “She’s Not There” for the popular HBO series True Blood), UK Subs, Paul Weller, The Vaccines, She & Him, Beck, Belle and Sebastian, The Black Angels, The Fleet Foxes, Beach House, The Temples and The Beautiful South.

They Zombies have been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and anyone can vote for them up until December 5 by visiting https://www.rockhall.com/vote.
