THERE was chaos on one of Hampshire's busiest motorways this morning following a crash involving four vehicles.

The M3 southbound carriageway was blocked following a crash between junctions 11 and 12 - which caused gridlock on the route and in surrounding areas.

The road has now reopened.

A woman has been been taken to hospital by ambulance after being cut from her car by firefighters.

Two lanes closed following the crash which took place at 8.25am at the height of the rush hour.

Crews from WinchesterEastleigh and Redbridge cut a woman from her vehicle before she was taken to hospital.

There were delays of an hour in the southbound direction.

There were also queues northbound stretching back to Junction 14.

Surrounding roads were also busy including the Hockley Link, Twyford and routes through Winchester city centre.

A motorist who passed the crash, said: "I saw three fire engines and a dozen firefighers who were cutting someone out of a car

"Police and the ambulance services are there. There are queues on both sides of the road."
