THOUSANDS of people pounded the streets of Winchester this weekend as part of the city's first half marathon event for more than 30 years.
The route took runners in some of the city's most iconic landmarks and rolling countryside.
Mayor Jane Rutter set the runners off through the streets yesterday as crowds lined the streets to cheer on the participants.
The event was a partnership between Marafun UK, the same group behind the ABP Southampton Half Marathon, which took place in April, and the Winchester Sport Art and Leisure Trust (Winchester SALT).
The 13.1-mile race began at the Guildhall and ties in with the Winchester Community Games at Bar End where many crowds gathered to make a day of the event.
