TIME is running out to nominate the next Winchester Community Star with the deadline just a few days away.

Run by the University of Winchester, in conjunction with the Hampshire Chronicle, the awards highlight the contribution of local community organisations or people.

The award is open to all people and organisations who share the university’s commitment to serving the common good and reflect its values of intellectual freedom, social justice, diversity, spirituality, individuals matter and creativity.

Professor Joy Carter, vice-chancellor, said: “The university is a values-driven institution with a strong commitment to the Hampshire community. The awards are a wonderful way to highlight and reward the tireless commitment shown by groups and individuals who are doing commendable work in the community.”

Alongside this is the Vice-Chancellor’s Community Engagement Award which celebrates the work of students and staff from the university who have made an outstanding contribution to the community.

Last October, the award was presented at the graduation ceremonies to Abby Crowe for her work with Solent Mind; Anna O’Brien, of Winchester Hospital Radio; and Integr8 dance company established by alumni Charlie Sapey.

The Community Star Award will be awarded at Winchester Cathedral in October during the university’s graduation ceremonies. The winner will receive a £300 donation to a charity of their choice.

Nominations must refer to activities within the past 12 months.
