A MAN has died after a crash involving a lorry and a rubbish truck in Hampshire.

Police shut the A303 between Andover and Popham following the collision, which happened at about 11.48am by the turning for Overton and Micheldever station.

The driver of the HGV, who is a man in his 50s, was rushed to hospital in a life-threatening condition.

Initially his injuries were described as 'life-changing' but police announced this morning that he has died.

Now police are appealing for information to find out the circumstances of the crash.

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service said: “We were called to that at 11.46am, after a report that a heavy goods vehicle had collided into the back of a rubbish truck, with the HGV driver trapped in his cab.

“We sent an ambulance, one of our officers and the hazardous area response team, and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

“The driver was removed from the cab, he is a male in his 50s and he was taken to North Hampshire Hospital by land ambulance."

Police are keen to speak to a tractor driver who was driving on the road before the crash and is believe to be an important witness.

Anyone with information on the incident can call police on 101 and quote Operation Notes.
