FROM superb singers to mysterious magicians.

Winchester's potential stars of the future took to the stage to take part in a Britain's Got Talent audition.

The Railway Inn welcomed more than 20 acts who took part in Winchester's Got Talent on Monday.

The acts are hoping to emulate the success of Diversity, Susan Boyle and Paul Potts.

Many of those taking part were already regulars at The Railway Inn's Roots Night, which is the open-mic night every Monday.

The range of acts and talent was clear to see, one of them was Melissa Blaikie, 21, from Sparkford Close, who sung 2014 hit Riptide by Vance Joy.

The University of Winchester student has been playing at The Railway for the past six months and was understandably nervous before the audition.

Hampshire Chronicle:

Melissa said: "It is an absolute passion I love playing and singing and being on stage. I watched Britain's Got Talent quite a lot when I was younger when I had a TV, I really enjoyed it it is a really good show.

"Winchester is such a great city but not many people know about its music scene."

Also auditioning was Polly Perry, of Polly and the Billets Doux.

Another impressive act was Eddie George,14, from Whitchurch, who describes himself as a folk mixed with hip-hop singer.

The Testbourne Community School pupil impressed the audience when he sung Ed Sheeran's hit Give Me Love.

Hampshire Chronicle:

Mixing things up was magician Alex Whitwell, 39, who performed card tricks.

Another musician who wowed audiences was indie rocker Scott Freeman, 25, from St Giles Hill.

Hampshire Chronicle:

Before playing Scott said: "Tonight is about putting my name out there and getting more fans."

By day Eric Walker, 21, from Southampton, works as a data analyst, but by night he is a ukulele player.

Hampshire Chronicle:

He said: "I tend to play here every week at all the open mic nights and I am always performing at every chance I get, I love playing my music and sharing my stories with the world."
