WINCHESTER City Council has confirmed that disabled drivers and X zone permit holders will still be able to use Chesil multi-storey car park whilst maintenance takes place.

Starting on August 8, work will close floors one and two, with parking available from floor three.

A spokesman told the Chronicle that disabled spaces will be situated on floor three and X zone permit parking – for local residents – on floor four, for the duration of the process.

Ninety-nine bays out of a total of 598 standard bays will be affected.

The works involve removal of the car park surface by mechanical means which will cause some noise at the beginning of the project. The new surface coat application will be applied by hand and therefore should be a quiet process.

The works are planned to take no longer than four weeks and must take place during fine weather.

The nearby open air car park closed earlier this year and is being redeveloped for homes for the elderly.
