THE fete with the most beautiful setting in Winchester returns this Saturday.
Music and dancing, interrupted by the occasional whistle of a model steam train and screams of Punch & Judy, will enliven the lawns of the medieval Hospital of St Cross from 2pm on Saturday June 25.
The annual fete has been every year since 1868 and will be opened by the Master of St Cross, the Revd Reg Sweet.
There will be a wide range of stalls and games, as well as train rides and entertainment provided by the Winchester Morris Men, 1st Chandlers Ford Boys' Brigade Band and Punch & Judy.
Teas, home-made cakes and ice cream will be available.
After torrential rain in 2014, we are praying for sunshine.
Funds raised will go to the church at St Cross, the Winchester Mediation Service and 'Away From It All Family Holidays' run by the Mothers' Union.
Local author, Claire Fuller, will be signing copies of her prize winning novel, Our Endless Numbered Days.
Gates open at 2pm and there is ample free car parking in the adjacent water meadows. Entrance for Adults is £2.50, children free. Assistance dogs only.
