WINCHESTER traveller John Pilkington will be speaking at Southampton University next week about his latest expedition.
'Russia and Europe: What Next?' is about his five-month trip last year through Ukraine, Russia and the breakaway states of the Caucasus.
Mr Pilkington, of Culverwell Gardens, Winchester, said: "The trip was both upsetting and at the same time incredibly heartwarming.
"I'm none the wiser about what Mr Putin is planning, but I did get some surprising insights into the Russian people, their sense of history and their hopes for the next few years."
He will also be showing some stunning photos from his journey.
The event is being organised by the Royal Geographical Society on Wednesday May 25, starting at 7pm.
The venue is the Shackleton Building on the university's Highfield Campus.
Tickets are £10 from the Society at www.rgs.org, or on the door. Entry for students is free.
