Noise flying above homes in Chandler's Ford was not fighter plane but Boeing 727

Residents had reported the noise of an aircraft flying above their homes in the Chandler's Ford area ealier today.

One resident said the noise was so loud that she believed it could only have come from a fighter jet over her home at about 10.30am yesterday.

But now it has been revealed that the noise had not come from a fighter plane - but from a 31-year-old Boeing 727 commercial plane.

The aircraft, registration G-OSRA,  is owned by T2 Aviation Ltd, based at Doncaster Airport

 Wendie West from Eastleigh who saw it from her garden.

She said: “It was flying fairly low north westerly but we do see quite a lot of strange planes go over so consider it to be nothing sinister or unusual.”

Another resident Dave Grubb said: “I can confirm that the plane was not a fighter jet, but a 31 year old Boeing 727, registration G-OSRA, owned by T2 Aviation Ltd, based at Doncaster Airport.”

The plane is being used by Southampton-based company Oil Spill Response which is carrying out test flights with it to replace one of its older Hercules models.

Ken Church duty manager of Oil Spill Response said: “It’s a new plane that we are developing and we are currently carrying out flight trials.

"It has been flying around the area and we are hoping to have it in service soon.”
