AN elderly Winchester woman died of natural causes at a care home, an inquest heard.

Nora Pay died at Westholme Care Home in Harestock in October after an infection.

Winchester Coroner's Court heard how the 95-year-old was diagnosed with dementia and had moved to the care home after Nightingale Lodge, where she had stayed since 2012, closed in 2013.

Giving evidence Mrs Pay's GP, Dr Jason Collins from St Paul's Surgery in Winchester, told how her dementia had worsened gradually since she was diagnosed in 2008.He also noted she had a history of infections and suffered from mobility problems,.

The inquest heard how Mrs Pay was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection on October 15, and was put on a course of antibiotics, however Mrs Pay's condition deteriorated and she passed away on October 23.

Senior Coroner Grahame Short concluded her death was due to natural causes.
