STEVE Hollick is peeved at having to disrupt his midfield trio as AFC Totton bid to make it three wins in a row at Evesham United on Saturday in Evo-Stik Southern One South & West.

The form of Neil Williams, Jack Alexander and Jake Burgess has been instrumental in back-to-back successes over Wantage and Larkhall, but 18-year-old Burgess must sit out the weekend's game due to a one-match suspension.

It could have been worse. Like Burgess, on-loan Eastleigh man Alexander was sent off in a 2-0 defeat at Swindon Supermarine two weeks ago.

But whereas Totton successfully appealed Alexander’s straight red card with the help of video evidence, there was nothing they could do for Burgess because you cannot appeal two yellows.

Manager Hollick complained at the time that Burgess’s bookings were “laughable”, particularly in respect of the slippery conditions, and nothing has changed his mind.

“Jack Alexander was sent off for a nonsense tackle right at the end and that one was overturned straight away,” he said.

“But Jake got two soft yellows, which even Swindon boss Dave Webb said were never bookings, and we can’t do anything about it.

“It’s a real shame because we’ve been able to pick the same squad of 16 and the same starting 11 for the last two games and the midfield three are hitting a bit of form.”

Totton must also make a defensive change tomorrow because AFC Bournemouth loanee Jack Simpson limped off with ankle damage on Tuesday.

“He landed heavily and it ballooned a bit and he’s under the advice of Bournemouth’s physio department,” said Hollick. “As a precaution he may need a couple of weeks out.”

Mitchell Hunt, a centre-back loaned from Eastleigh’s under-21s, did a good job replacing Simpson, but he will not necessarily start at Evesham.

The Stags have added an experienced, new defender to the ranks, signing Patrick Wilson from Wimborne Town.

“I did my UEFA B Licence with Pat and we’ve been monitoring him for a while,” said Hollick. “He’s good in the air and will bring a wealth of experience to the back line.

“We need to strengthen that area because James Roden has an on-going knee problem which we have to keep an eye on and Tony Rolls is struggling with a back/hip problem.

“Mitchell Hunt came on and did well on his debut. He’s an intelligent player but he’s quite a small lad and it will be interesting to see how he deals with the Southern League.”
