A JOURNALISM lecturer at Winchester University has led by example by winning a prestigious award.

Jon Robins has been named as the Bar Council’s print journalist of 2015 for two articles he researched and wrote for the Independent on Sunday.

It is the second time he has won the award, as he previously won it in 2005 for an Observer newspaper article called ‘Insult to Injury’.

Jon is founder and editor of The Justice Gap. The online magazine highlights potential miscarriages of justice and the lack of adequate compensation for victims of these miscarriages – it has become one of the UK’s leading forums for discussions surrounding social justice.

This year his award-winning articles A failure of justice and Money cannot make up for what happened focused on the disputed compensation cases of Victor Nealon and Sam Hallam.

Mr Robins, said: “I was delighted to win this year’s award.”

“It’s particularly satisfying to win it for two articles highlighting the impact of the coalition government's outrageous decision last year to scrap compensation for the victims of miscarriages of justice

“This is an important issue, one that has largely been overlooked, and it’s really heartening to see the Bar Council agreeing it needs highlighting.”

As a part-time journalism lecturer at the University of Winchester, Jon encourages his students to get involved with The Justice Gap. Students have the opportunity to act as reporters, video journalists, researchers and producers.
