HUNDREDS of freemasons from across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight will fill Winchester Cathedral for their annual service.

The service of thanksgiving at 6pm on Sunday, October 11, will see the Dean of Winchester, The Very Reverend James Atwell, taking part.

Those attending will include the Deputy Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire and the Deputy Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight.

And 12 mayors from across the masonic province of Hampshire and Isle of Wight – which includes Bournemouth – will also be present.

Representatives of charities that are supported by freemasons are also on the guest list for what promises to be a memorable occasion.

Many of the masons will be wearing regalia and will be attending with their families.

Mike Wilks, the Provincial Grand Master of the province, said: “This annual service is always extremely well attended and is a wonderful occasion.

“It is a chance to give thanks in one of the most wonderful and historic cathedrals in the country."

Mr Wilks added: “I am looking forward to meeting our members and their families who will be coming from across the province, which is one of the largest in the country.”
