HE'S a 14-year-old cat who enjoys curling up in a ball and going to sleep in his Hampshire home – and he's faced down his neighbours after they installed a barbed wire fence.

Chandler's Ford resident Bea Upton and her cat Tiggly were upset when the contraption, which included barbed wire, sharp studs and three-inch anti-pigeon spikes, was put up on a wall bordering their house.

For years Tiggly could be seen coming out of an upstairs window, before dropping onto a tiled roof and onto the wall before jumping down to the ground.

But after the barbed wire was installed he became stuck and neighbours were forced to rescue him and Bea said it stopped him living a normal life.

Now the wire and spikes have been pulled down by the neighbour, known only as Valerie.

Bea said: "No conversation has occurred between Valerie and myself.

"The next thing I know there is a massive thumping sound resonating through the house.

"On checking outside, I could see that the barbed wire was down and a builder was taking down the wall."

Hampshire Chronicle:

How the wall was left on Saturday

"The way it was portrayed was that it was to stop Tiggly getting on the wall - I'm at a loss.

"The barbed wire being taken down is not a danger anymore so that's a good thing."

And Bea admits that she did not understand what caused the fuss in the first place.

As previously reported by the Chronicle, she complained to the RSPCA but they could not intervene because pet deterrents are not prohibited.

Bea said: "I don't know what she thinks is going to happen."

The Chronicle knocked on Valerie's door but she declined to discuss the issue.
