Andover Open Cup Final.

Stockbridge 2, Alresford 1.

On Monday evening (April 30) Stockbridge played their last game of the season, when they met Alresford Town in the final of the Andover Open Cup at Portway Stadium.

This was always going to be a tough game for the Robins against a side just promoted to the Premier Division of the Sydenham Wessex League.

Stockbridge got off to the worst possible start when Alresford took the lead after only five minutes. As the Robins began to get into the game, a rattled Alresford defence gave away a series of free kicks for some reckless tackling.

Stockbridge were not going to be intimidated by the opposition, and gave as good as they got with Lou Bain in the centre of midfield outstanding.

Robins Steve Witt had a well struck shot parried away by the keeper, and the same player was unlucky with a clever overhead effort.

Stockbridge should have got an equaliser just before the break when hard working skipper Dean Savage failed to make contact with the ball from five yards out.

The second half began the same as the first with both sides battling hard to get on top and the game played at the same high tempo. With only twelve minutes gone Stockbridge got their reward for all the hard work they had put in, when the tireless Paul Barnard swung the ball past the AIresford keeper to level the scores.

Robins manager Barry Andrews then made two substitutions, bringing on Pete Swinney and Ryan Boare for Dean Savage and Dave Allen who had both given their all. The switch paid dividends soon after when Witt slid the ball through to Swinney who fired in the winner, to make it a perfect end to the village side's season.

Stockbridge 4, Blackfield & Langley 3.

Stockbridge completed their season with a 4-3 win over Blackfield and Langley at the Recreation Ground which means they finish in a creditable seventh place in Sydenham Wessex League Division 1.

Stockbridge took a two goal lead through Steve Witt and Simon Poultney only for the visitors to pull it back to 2-2.

Another goal before the break by Blackfield and Langley saw them go in at half-time with a 3-2 lead.

Sam Coleman scored early in the second half to put the Robins back on level terms and a goal by Dave Allen three points.

Stockbridge 6 , Petersfield 0.

The first half of this contest, played in good spirit, gave no indication of the turbulent end to the game.

With nothing between the two sides in the first half it took until the 25th minute before Dean Savage headed Stockbridge into the lead. The score remained 1-0 at the break.

Dean Savage was unlucky early in the second half when he cleverly lobbed the visitor's keeper only to see the ball bounce over the crossbar. Stockbridge gradually got on top and two strikes by Liam Edwards gave them a 3-0 lead.

At this stage some of the Petersfield team lost the plot, the keeper and another player were sent off in quick succession.

Stockbridge took full advantage of the situation and Edwards completed his hat-trick to make it 4-0. Tom Baybutt then scored two more to complete the rout.
