A LOCAL gardening group is looking to recruit volunteers to help transform a little corner of Poole.

Existing members of Twigs have spent many hours clearing land next to Rossmore Library of weeds and brambles in the hope of creating a community-friendly garden.

They have already started their planting programme for the sensory garden but need more people to complete the work.

Group founder, Dee Hoy, said: β€œIt will be a true community garden, open to everyone. We want to make it attractive to children and will be creating fairy tale areas within the garden. We were kindly donated two beech trees that we have called Bill and Ben.”

Working under the guidance of Poole Borough Council - who gave them the go ahead last year - the group's plans include a herb garden, seated area and raised beds to allow local schoolchildren to grow their own vegetables.

It has been funded by a small donation from a now deceased library member.

Though some of the plants and hedging has been vandalised twice since they were planted, Dee is determined to continue with the group's plans.
