KEVIN Jackson this morning resigned as manager of Folland Sports.

Having taken over the reins when Jay Keating was sacked at the end of July after just three months in charge, Jackson has relinquished control of team affairs just three games into the new Sydenhams Premier season.

With a background in coaching and physiotherapy, Poole-based Jackson says he wasn’t cut out to be a manager.

And, with former reserve team boss and first-team coach Dave Herbert now back on the Hamble scene, he felt it was the ideal time to step aside.

Amid all the managerial turmoil, Follands have had a poor start to the season, still without a league point on the board and already out of the FA Cup.

Jackson explained: “I was holding the job until they got someone in and I think it’s time for a local guy like Dave Herbert to take control.

“There’s no malice or bad feeling. I enjoyed myself at Follands, but I’m not a manager, I coach and deal with sports injuries and I wasn’t enjoying the managerial side.

“Dave’s come in and recruited some new players and, if he gets the job, it will give him a better chance with me out of the way.

“It’s only three games into the season and whoever takes over needs a fresh run at it.

“Travelling was also a problem for me, living the other side of Poole, and I want to go back to scouting and coaching in junior football closer to home. I’ve missed being involved in coaching. My heart wasn’t in being a manager.”

Follands are due to play Verwood Town away on Wednesday (7.45pm) and Jackson has good vibes about it.

“I went and watched Verwood at the weekend (losing 5-0 at home to Moneyfields) and this could be the turning point for Follands,” he predicted.

“I wish everyone at the club well. I think it's settled there now and the lads need to rally round and support the new manager.”
