AN inquest has opened into the death of a Hampshire teenager who died on holiday in Crete.
Winchester Coroners Court heard how 18-year-old Archie Lloyd, from Micheldever had died as a result of a head injury he suffered on August 6.
His death was confirmed by Greek authorities and his body was identified by his father James.
No further details were revealed in the inquest which has been adjourned for February 8 2016.
It has been reported he was involved in a drunken row in Malia and was punched before hitting his head on the ground.
The Harrow pupil, who was awaiting his A-Level results, is said to have refused medical treatment after the incident and returned to his hotel where he was found dead hours later.
A statement issued by Hampshire Police on behalf of the Lloyd family said: “We appreciate the interest of members of the media following the death of our son Archie.
"Our family wishes to keep this an entirely private matter and will not be making any public comment, nor making any photographs or other information available.
“It is our strong wish that our privacy is respected at this sad time and ask media not to contact us so that we may be left alone to grieve.
A statement from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO), said: "We can confirm the death of a British national in Crete on 6 August. We are providing consular assistance to the family at this difficult time.”
Sebastian Trabucatti, 22, of West Sussex, has been charged with gross negligence leading to manslaughter and released on bail.
